Information for Potential and Incoming Members
We invite ALL students to take a look at our Band Program and what it has to
offer YOU. The music curriculum is designed to include something for everyone
whether you play a band instrument or not. There are ensembles for the student
who:
•       Has not participated in school band but sings or plays other instruments
such as Guitar, Piano, Drums, Bass, Violin,  etc. We will find a way for all
dedicated students to perform in one of our ensembles no matter what he or
she plays.
•       Has never played an instrument but enjoys dance and gymnastics.
•       Enjoys listening, playing, and performing with a variety of musical styles.
•       Has experience designing or building props.

Becoming a member of the McMichael Band Program can benefit you as an
individual in many ways. For those of you who are just entering high school, the
music program can become an instant family of friends and help make a
somewhat scary transition much easier. For everyone involved, the skills you learn
in our program to achieve quality performance levels are the same skills that will
make you a successful individual no matter what you choose to do in life.
Members of the McMichael Band Program are expected to be committed to self-
discipline, individual responsibility, and excellence in everything they do. The staff
is totally committed to not only teaching students to become better musicians, but
also to help them develop as better people.

For parents, you are encouraged to support your student and become active in the
McMichael High School Band Booster organization. For additional information on
the Boosters and parental expectations, please review the
Band Booster web
page.

If you or your student is not currently a member of the McMichael Band Program
and would like to learn about joining please contact Mr. Randy Quarles, Director
of Bands.
Marching Band

PRIOR NOTICE IS GIVEN DIRECTLY TO MR. QUARLES.

All members of the McMichael marching band will be notified of rehearsal and
performance schedules for the entire season early on and are expected to be at
every rehearsal and performance (football games are considered performances)
unless approved well in advance by Mr. Quarles. We all rely on each other to make
the season successful, therefore we must all be present at all times.

Members of the McMichael marching band will be required to purchase a 3-ring
binder and clear sheet protectors (available at any office supply store) in which they
are to have all related marching band materials, including: all warm-up exercises
show music, drill sheets, pencil and any other materials handed out by the staff.
-this is required so that we don't waste time and money searching for and printing
extra papers that have already been handed out.

Members of the marching band are required to have their drill dot book completely
filled out and with them on the field at ALL TIMES throughout the season (excluding
front ensemble members). This helps the drill cleaning process to be much quicker
and less painful for everyone involved.

Competitive marching band is becoming more and more a highly physical activity. To
perform successfully, members are expected to have healthy bodies and minds
throughout the season and are encouraged to develop their own work-out routine.

Tuition for the 2010 marching band season is $200 and is scheduled to be paid in 4
segments of $50 each before band camp. Member tuition is used to purchase
equipment for your students, hire staff to give your students specialized training, and
battle high transportation costs to and from performances.
