Wind Ensemble
Concert Band
Explore a broad range of music
that represents all aspects of wind literature,
including 20th century, solo and
small ensemble, transcriptions, and original
works. Study, in-depth, the field of
instrumental music that includes performance,
sight-reading, improvisation, notation, and
analysis. Local area performances and
extracurricular concert attendance required.
Expand your musical knowledge and
technical development. Increase your
understanding of music theory, history,
and literature as it applies to contemporary
performance. Previous band experience,
instrumental training, or audition is
required. Local area performances and
extracurricular concert attendance
required.
Instrumental music and visual performance
instruction with an emphasis on high quality
performance. Perform at all home and selected
away football games, local parades, school
functions as well as travel to competitions and
festivals throughout North Carolina and
Virginia.
Jazz Ensemble
Learn a variety of jazz music styles
including swing, bebop, cool, funk, rock,
and reggae. Concentrate on contemporary
music as well as improvisation. Jazz
ensemble will be an extracurricular activity
for the 2009-10 school year and will begin
in mid November.
Colorguard
The Color Guard combine dance, drama, and
performance with the manipulation of various
flags, rifles and other objects.  This
performing group is an intricate part of the fall
season Marching Band program.


This performance ensembles is open to
everyone at Dalton McMichael High School
regardless of experience. For those with no
previous experience, a meeting with Mr.
Quarles is required for placement. Dance or
gymnastics training is encouraged.
Percussion Ensemble
The Percussion Ensemble is made up of
all percussionists and pianists who
perform some of the finest percussion
ensemble literature written. The members
of this ensemble have the opportunity to
explore numerous percussion
instruments and various styles and
techniques.

No band or musical ensemble of any kind
can effectively perform without a
competent percussion and/or rhythm
section. Referred to as "The Pit" in
marching band lingo, the students who
make up the Percussion Ensemble are a
vital element of the Marching Band and
Concert Band programs.

Students in the Percussion Ensemble
study under the direction of dedicated
percussion instructors in an
extracurricular setting.
